I heard an almost identical story from a security guard at DEFCON IV last
july in Las Vegas. He said it happened in the hotel where he was working
(not the Monte Carlo, which had just opened) in 1995. The management
managed to cover the event up and it never, according to him, appeared in
the local papers.

This whole event actually happened to a friend of someone a friend of mine
knows, or at least he heard about from a friend, or maybe he read about it
one of Brunwand's (sp?) "urban legend" books ("Choking Doberman," and
several others.

One might (I'm not a surgeon) be able to get viable kidneys under the
circumstances mentioned, but the victim wouldn't wake up. This has all the
hallmarks of a good urban legend.
